A thought for anyone who may be disappointed in the fact that Ravenloft has been folded into Points of Light's Shadowfell--2009 and 2010 are seeing books for the Elemental Chaos and the Astral Sea, and the very real possibility exists that we'll later see books for the Feywild and--most importantly--the Shadowfell. A Shadowfell sourcebook would almost have to include the Domains of Dread, aka Ravenloft. It may not be the same as getting a full blown campaign sourcebook, but it's the next best thing.

Another thing to keep in mind is that with Village of Hommlet released as an RPGA membership reward, and Tomb of Horrors announced as a 4th edition superadventure in 2010, it's entirely possible that we'll see 4th edition adaptations of some of the other classic adventures in some form or another, and that includes the Ravenloft ones...

I think I'm in the "crossing my fingers for Dark Sun" camp. Is the article you're talking about the "Hazards of Dark Sun" one?

Maybe it's another red herring but the Thri-Kreen are mentioned in passing in the Eberron Player's Guide in the section on Xen'drik.

I sincerly hope for Dark Sun, and maybe I'm just obsessing over Red Herrings here, but:

1) The third player's handbook focuses on psionic heroes.
2) An article appeared in Dragon magazine detailing some of the hazards for 4th edition
3) In 3.5 Dark Sun received not only support during both Campaign Classics issues, but also a magazine all to itself.

So, with what you've already mentioned, I'd like to say its a shoo in for Dark Sun. But, Dragonlance is easily the largest competitor for the 2010 lineup.

Michelle: I unfortunately don't know a whole lot about the fantasy setting search outside of what was printed in the original Eberron guide about it. A bit of google-fu has turned up interviews on the Wizards website with the other two runners up, Rich Burlew and Nathan Toomey. I also located the original contest outline. I'd doubt pretty highly that either Burlew or Toomey have revealed much about the settings they entered into the contest anywhere else, as Wizards paid them for the rights and presumably that involved a non-disclosure agreement. My own research for the article didn't really originally include this as it was outside the intended scope of the piece.

I hope that it is either Oriental Adventures or Al Quadim. It is sometimes fun to play something other than Western Themed games. That being said, I think it is Dark Sun, for many of the reasons you explained (heavy psionics use and that fits with PHB3 power source). Plus, it could reintroduce the Thri-Keen and Muls as playable races.

And in this day of Global Warming (Climate Change) fears, what better setting than a world where the natural resources were devastated. Makes an interesting and topical parallel.

Regarding the runners-up in the competition that begat Eberron: Are the details public knowledge? Can you provide a link?

I'd do the Google thingy, but I'm not sure what to search for -- keywords are a tricky thing.

More writers on D20 Source = more content, and I'm eager for that!

I'd love to see Dragonlance get a few books, but I'm more attached to the Chronicles and Legends era, rather than the new age stuff. Since 4E is reinventing everything, I know they'll go with the new age. As long as they make it clear that Dragonborn are actually Draconians, I'll be okay with it. If not I'll make it a house rule at my table "THESE ARE DRACONIANS!" and get on track coming up with a good villain for the setting.
